Academia (Research & Teaching)

She has a dual degree B.A. LLB (Hons) from the Jindal Global Law School in India (2014). The offered elective Art Law and Cultural Policy by Vik Kanwar at law school was a turning point and her deep curiosity in art theory and developments in artistic practices lead her to the Masters in Science (Msc.) in Modern & Contemporary Art: History, Curating & Criticism from the University of Edinburgh (2018), with the supervision of Prof. Angela Dimitrakaki and Dr. Harry Weeks. She taught at the Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS) at the University of Heidelberg (2019-2020). Her combined studies and legal practice paved way for earning a doctoral degree in contemporary art history and curatorial practices on ocean relations and stewardship, with Prof. Eva Kernbauer and Prof. Julienne Lorz at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, awarded in 2025.

Empowering Watery Worlds: Ocean Law, Policy & Advocacy

Water, her spirit element, has guided her throughout her journey. Inspired by the vast entity of the Ocean and ecological concerns from climate change impacts on the Ocean, since 2019, she specialises on ocean law and policy, from Max Planck Foundation (Germany) and then as Legal and Policy Expert/Deep Sea Mining Lead at Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary (TBA21), an international contemporary art and advocacy non-profit organisation. Currently, she serves as the Research Associate at ASCOMARE, an international maritime law and policy association, including as Executive Director of Blue Rights Lab, driving global advocacy and legal initiatives on water justice. She is a member of the Confluence of European Water Bodies advocating for nature’s legal rights, and the Deep Currents Collective, which envisions the deep seabed as a relational world sustaining human and more-than-human life. She catalyses codes of ethics and activism to support global south communities, in particular Black Lives and indigenous rights from the Pacific, including the Caribbean, that form an inherent part of her legal practices combined with art scholarship mapped across the intersection of class, gender, ecology and race.

Art Law & Curating

In connection to her early interest in the world of art, she offered legal services to artists’ and art institutions in India that over the years expanded to Scotland and Germany. With the former ArtForm consultancy, her focus was on artists’ rights: nature of transnational contract-making and transactional services in private sphere to artists’ and art institutions. She was invited as an expert to Künstlerhaus Stuttgart (Germany) as part of their ‘Working Group’ Exhibition in 2020. She has also curated exhibitions, designed workshops and public events across Austria, the Caribbean and Pacific.

Conferences & Publications

She has participated in academic and United Nations ocean-climate conferences across India, the UK, Europe, the Caribbean and Pacific.

Her publications are mainly on ocean arts and marine social sciences, including international laws and policies, international migration laws, constitutional law and international law (human rights), curating & globalization, gender equality in India, photo-series of Vietnam, palliative care of cancer patients (health-care), campaign and awareness of artists’ rights on free speech, anti-discrimination, exhibition production, artists’ fee, copyrights, resale royalties rights, etc.
